This is a style of drawing that I learnt with Ian Roberts - gradually building up shapes and masses with just pencil shading, and no outlines at all. It really is Slow Drawing, all my energy is concentrated on the tip of my pencil, and all other concerns and thoughts fade away. The humble pencil can wield a lot of power it seems!
"Tricks of the Shade" is an imaginary 'place' - a rather spikey landscape but full of water (I always feel my work refers in some way to water - it's my 'muse'!). (It's pencil on watercolour paper, 24 x 52cm.)
